Boston has three All-Star selections on their 2024 American League roster, with Rafael Devers joined by a pair of first-time additions in Tanner Houck and Jarren Duran. All three Red Sox players were added to the roster via player ballot choices and selections by the league’s Commissioner’s Office.

Duran has built on the promise he showcased during the 2023 season, establishing himself as one of the most dynamic players in baseball this summer. The 27-year-old outfielder entered Sunday batting .278 with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs — finishing second in the AL in doubles (24), third in hits (103), and fifth in stolen bases (21).

Earlier this week, Duran became the first player in American League history to record 100 or more hits, 10-plus triples, 10-plus homers, and 20-plus stolen before the All-Star Break.

Houck also earned his first All-Star nod after anchoring Boston’s starting rotation through the first three months of the season. The 28-year-old righty is 7-6 through 18 starts this season — posting a 2.68 ERA with 106 strikeouts and 23 walks over 111.0 innings of work. He currently ranks fifth in the American League in ERA.

Devers — who earned All-Star nods in 2021 and 2022 — has been as advertised in the heart of Boston’s lineup this season. After trudging through some nagging injuries in April, Devers has mashed the ball since May, batting .287 with 19 home runs, 16 doubles, and 53 RBI. He is expected to back up Cleveland’s Jose Ramirez at third base.

Sunday’s news marks the seventh time in the last eight seasons that Boston has had at least three All-Stars on its roster, with the lone outlier being last season, when closer Kenley Jansen was Boston’s lone representative during the 2023 All-Star game.

The 2024 All-Star Game will be held on July 16 at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas. The first pitch is set for 8 p.m.
