“It was the perfect setting. The wildlife, the pond, closure, and the shading of the shade trees.”

Inspired by a similar design spotted while traveling abroad, the owner of 116 Meadow Sky Drive in Guilford, Vt., wanted to duplicate it in a special location. He chose a 60-acre property for the unique home, which is commonly referred to as the “Vermont Mirror House.”

“It was the perfect setting. The wildlife, the pond, closure, and the shading of the shade trees,” said Chris Long of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate/The Masiello Group, who has the Vermont listing.

Impeccably constructed without sparing any expense, the home is made up of two different structures linked by a spiral staircase. Exterior mirrors that reflect light welcome you to the home, which measures 984 square feet, including the entry stair area.

Inside, walls of one-way glass allow views of the bucolic setting, rolling grass and a pond that offers a peaceful respite for nature, like red-wing blackbirds and even the occasional moose. While the glass panels don’t open, the roof panels and skylights all open to provide air. The spiral staircase affords access to the subterranean living space, as does an additional side entrance, which features a peaked glass ceiling and a traditional staircase that to the full bathroom and laundry area. Through another door, you’ll enter the real living space, home to a kitchen with white cabinetry and black countertops and a cozy dine-in area. The bedroom is partially enclosed.

“People that have stayed there have said it’s some of the best sleep they’ve ever had,” Long said.

An outdoor fire pit, composite deck, and stone hearth with a grill are ideal for summer nights. But while the weather may be blisteringly cold in Vermont during the winter, Long said it’s during those cold months that the home truly reaches its peak beauty.

“It’s exquisite in the wintertime. In the summer it is beautiful, but for some reason, in that room with the heat on in the wintertime, you feel like you’re out in the cold, but you’re warm, Long said. “It’s amazing.”

A crushed stone path leads down to a separate building constructed in 2023. Boasting large windows, the space features two Adirondack chairs facing outward and a new high-tech sauna. There is also an outdoor shower.

“It feels like you’re in this tree house, but you’re on the ground level,” Long said.
