Deer crashes through bus windshield in Rhode Island

The deer died on the bus after the crash, according to local reports.

Three passengers were injured when a deer jumped through the windshield of a public transit bus in Warwick, R.I. Monday, officials said.�

Dramatic videos released by the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) show the deer jumping through the windshield before landing in the aisle of the bus amid shards of glass.�

Six passengers were riding the bus at the time, Warwick police told The Providence Journal. Two were taken to the hospital with minor injuries from the broken glass, and a third went to the hospital by themselves, the Journalreported.�

The deer died on the bus after the crash, according to the Journal.�

The incident happened at about 3:10 p.m. Monday while the bus was traveling on Warwick Avenue, RIPTA said in a statement to Boston.com.

RIPTA interim CEO Christopher Durand praised the driver of the bus, Leocadio Hernandez, for his “exemplary response” to the situation.�

“His exceptional alertness and composure under pressure ensured the safety of all passengers,” Durand said in a statement. “This incident underscores the dedication and professionalism of our drivers in maintaining the highest standards of safety and care for our community.”
