Three passengers were injured when a deer jumped through the windshield of a public transit bus in Warwick, R.I. Monday, officials said.

Dramatic videos released by the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) show the deer jumping through the windshield before landing in the aisle of the bus amid shards of glass.

Six passengers were riding the bus at the time, Warwick police told The Providence Journal. Two were taken to the hospital with minor injuries from the broken glass, and a third went to the hospital by themselves, the Journalreported.

The deer died on the bus after the crash, according to the Journal.

The incident happened at about 3:10 p.m. Monday while the bus was traveling on Warwick Avenue, RIPTA said in a statement to Boston.com.

RIPTA interim CEO Christopher Durand praised the driver of the bus, Leocadio Hernandez, for his “exemplary response” to the situation.

“His exceptional alertness and composure under pressure ensured the safety of all passengers,” Durand said in a statement. “This incident underscores the dedication and professionalism of our drivers in maintaining the highest standards of safety and care for our community.”
