Michael O’Driscoll, 39, is facing charges of assault and battery with serious bodily injury and mayhem.

A Plymouth man was arrested Sunday after, police say, he bit off a chunk of another man’s ear in a drunken fight.

Plymouth police said the fight between the two men occurred around 1 a.m. at a home in North Plymouth. The pair had spent the day and night on a sightseeing cruise and then continued drinking at local establishments before going to the North Plymouth home. There, they got into an argument and “began exchanging punches,” according to the department.

Police said 39-year-old Michael O’Driscoll of Plymouth got his opponent, a 40-year-old from Dorchester, on the ground and put his mouth around his ear.

“The man pleaded ‘Don’t bite my ear off, Don’t bite my ear!’” police said. “The pleading went unheeded by Mr. O’Driscoll who bit a good chunk of his victim’s ear off.”

Plymouth police said when officers responded to the residence a “two inch” piece of an ear was in a cup of ice water.

O’Driscoll was arrested and charged with assault and battery with serious bodily injury (severe disfigurement) and mayhem. A mugshot of O’Driscoll released by police shows the 39-year-old with what appears to be blood smeared on his head and face.
